Spicy Turnips
Serves 4 to 6

1 kg (2 1/2 lbs) turnips, peeled and cut in quarters
2 garlic cloves
3 Tbsp butter
1 hot chili pepper
2 cm (1 inch) ginger, chopped
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons coriander seeds
2 Tbsp plain yogurt
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 to 2 teaspoons garam masala

Mix in a blender the garlic, pepper, ginger, cumin, coriander and the
yogurt, to make a paste.

Melt butter in a pan and saute the turnips for a few minutes until
they become a bit golden. Remove the turnip and keep aside.

Fry the paste in the pan for a minute. Add the turnips put the
water, bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes.

Add the sugar, the garam masala and increase the heat to evaporate
all the water. 

Variation: For spicy turnips and greens, add 1 large bunch of greens,
such as kale, chopped.
