Ground Beef and Macaroni with Bechamel Sauce

16 oz. large elbow macaroni
1 1/4 lbs. ground beef
1 chopped onion
black pepper and salt, to taste
1/2 cup tomato sauce
butter
grated cheddar cheese, to cover top

Fry onion in butter until onions are dark yellow. Add ground beef
and stir until beef is browned. Add pepper and salt. Then add
tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.

Cook macaroni according to package directions.

WHITE SAUCE

4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 1/2 - 4 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
black pepper and salt, to taste

Add flour to butter in saucepan and cook until golden. Add milk
and stir on medium heat until thick. Remove from heat.

Add salt and pepper to the beaten egg and add to white sauce. Keep
stirring it for awhile.

Add cooked, drained macaroni to the white sauce. Spread half the
macaroni and sauce mixture in the bottom of a baking pan and cover
with the prepared meat mixture. Add the rest of the macaroni and
sauce mixture and sprinkle the top with grated cheese.

Bake at 250 degrees F for 40 minutes, then broil for 3-5 minutes
