Pan de Polvo
4 cinnamon sticks
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 pounds shortening
3 pounds flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
pinch of salt
1 cup lukewarm anise tea
Place cinnamon sticks on a cookie sheet and heat them on a low
flame on the stove. This is to make them softer when grinding.
Grind in molinillo with two cups of sugar. Place in a small bowl
so to dust cookies after they are baked.
In a large bowl, mix shortening, flour, sugar and salt. Form
into a dough mixture and knead for about 20 minutes. Add 1 cup of
lukewarm anise tea.
After kneading, form about two or three balls of dough. Roll out
dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured board.
Cut with your favorite cookie cutters and bake on an ungreased
cookie sheet for seven to 10 minutes or when lightly brown in a
400-degree oven.
When bread is ready, remove and let cool for five minutes. Dust
each cookie with cinnamon and powder.
