Norwegian Sour Cream Cake

1 1/2 cups soft butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/8 tsp. salt
1 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup chopped. walnuts
1 tbsp. brown sugar
walnut halves

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one by one until fluffy. Beat
in sour cream and vanilla (1 1/2 tsp.) Add flour, baking powder,
soda and salt gradually. Divide batter into 3 round 9" cake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit 45 minutes. Allow layers to cool in
pans, then turn out on rack.  Whip cream with 1/3 cup brown sugar
and 1/2 tsp. vanilla.

To assemble, place one layer on platter, spread top to edges with
1/3 whipped cream. Sprinkle with 1/2 chopped walnuts. Repeat. Top
with third layer, spread remaining whipped cream atop. Sprinkle
with sifted brown sugar and walnut halves.
