Oatmeal Cake

1 cup quick oatmeal
1 1/2 cups boiling water

1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda

Combine oatmeal and boiling water; cool. Mix in separate bowl the
sugar, shortening, cinnamon, sugar and eggs.

Add flour and soda. Add oatmeal mixture. Pour into a 9 x 13" greased
and floured cake pan and bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Test with toothpick.


Topping

6 tablespoons melted butter
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup nuts
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup shredded coconut
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine above ingredients and spread on cake while warm then brown under
broiler.
